Hitler is liberating Sudetenland

Dostupné v: English | Česky

Based on the Munich agreement, the Czech border areas were devolved to Nazi Germany. On 3rd October 1938, Adolf Hitler crossed the former border of the Czechoslovak Republic for the first time. This took place between the Bavarian village Wildenau and town Aš. Nazi propaganda described his arrival in the following manner: “At Erkesreuth, the border was three kilometres away. The feverish tension was growing. A few minutes later, we had reached the border village Wildenau. The former imperial border was commemorated by a sign situated in the centre of the village. Once more, amidst the joy of cheering men and women, the border gate was let down. A report was presented to the Führer. We also experienced this historic moment with ardent and beating hearts, like the local inhabitants. It was 11.20. The Führer – it was not easy to make way for him – went back to his car. After that, the liberator of the Sudetenland, amongst his proud army, had passed the border which his ingenious politics helped erase in favour of the Sudeten Germans. The musical accompaniment provided by the SA, Assault Division, played the national anthems and the Führer’s car covered with flowers, slowly set out on its journey through free German Egerland.”
