The training of the border guards

Available in: English | Česky

Dalibor Plšek started his military service in 1958. From his birthplace in Zlín, he was ordered to join the border guard brigade in Sušice. Before taking up service, he completed an intensive training course in Nýrsko. Every morning, as a warm-up exercise, the soldier-trainees had to run 10 kilometers on a nearby hill called “Pajrek.” Then they’d have to march for 50 kilometers, learn to shoot, etc. They were trained for service at the state border in an untamed and mountainous area.

Since the 1950s, a training center of the border guard was situated on the outskirts of Nýrsko. At first, it was operated by the 7th Brigade headquartered in Sušice. In 1962, it fell under the authority of the 9th Brigade that had its seat in Domažlice. After 1990, the former training grounds were used as a center for refugees arriving from the former Yugoslavia. At the present, it belongs to the town and is used as a medical facility.
