The Soul of the Library

The library of Liberec is only seemingly an ordinary public building. In fact, you’re standing in front of a multi-faceted work of art. It is the work of many authors but its chief architect and the spiritual leader of the whole creative process was Věra Vohlídalová. The library is the result of a special and unique constellation where at one point in time the need for a new library met the story of a particular place chosen for its construction and Mrs. Vohlídalová’s personal story. However, this would not have been enough on its own if it wasn’t for Mrs. Vohlídalová’s courage and energy to pursue her inspiration and to make the library a reality out of nothing. The library is literally teeming with life, probably being the brightest spot on the cultural and social-life map of Liberec. This is owed to its employees and the strong story that it was endowed with by Mrs. Vohlídalová. Testimony was gathered within the Living Memory of Liberec – Reichenberg project.
