I pulled the trigger twice
Ctirad Mašín was put in prison in 1951, and his brother Josef, with his friends, decided to gain money to set him free. At the time they had already formed a part of their anti-Communist resistance group. They wanted to gain the money from a car which belonged to the Kovolis factory in Hedvikov --each Friday this car would bring wages for the factory’s employees. Josef Mašín and Václav Švéda were waiting for the car dressed in militia uniforms. When the car stopped they asked whether someone in the car was armed. Everyone answered negatively, including the cashier, Josef Rošický. Josef Mašín commented: “We wanted to drive them to a pheasant farm, which was a couple of hundred meters away, and tie them up there. We didn't want to hurt anyone. As we were approaching the pheasant farm, Rošický pounced on me from his back seat, jumped behind the steering wheel and swerved the car off the road.” Mašín stepped on the brake and jumped out of the car, which ended up in a ditch. Mašín went on to say: “Rošický got out of the car from the right and pulled out his gun. He was aiming at me and I jumped at him. I tried to hold his hand behind his back and by doing so I made him trip. We both fell in the ditch. I put my finger on top of his holding the trigger --I pulled twice and that was the end of Mr Rošický.”
