Jan Kubiš, a coolheaded guy, who killed Protector Heydrich On June 18th 1942 at around five a.m. an SS strike commando comprising of twenty five men enters the church of St. Cyril and Methodius. Jan Kubiš, who took part in the assassination of Heydrich, is at that time on watch in the church gallery and the choir loft together with Adolf Opálka and Josef Bublík. The uneven battle takes almost two hours. Jan Kubiš is lethally hurt by a shrapnel from a grenade and never regains consciousness. He dies during his transfer to an SS field hospital in Podolí. From his wide-ranging family 250 people are gradually arrested. His closest family members are transferred from the Small Fort of Terezín to the concentration camp Mauthausen where they are executed.
