Explosion
Like thousands of her contemporaries, Libuše Hittmanová was subjected to forced labor during the Second World War. The labor office sent her to Fürth near Nuremberg, where she worked in the Dynamit Nobel AG ammunition factory. Together with another woman, they sat in a small cubicle and filled dynamite into cartridges. During one night shift, Libuše stood in the door of the cubicle and was watching the spotlights in search of enemy bombers in the sky. "Suddenly, there was a huge bang. I went flying outside of the cubicle. I was burned, bruised. Our cubicle exploded." Libuše's colleague made a mistake while handling the explosives and paid with her life for it. Libuše was blinded in her left eye by the explosion. Instead of sending her to the hospital to recover, she was sent back to work in another factory building after just a short treatment.
