Flowers as far as the eye can see

Available in: English | Česky

“In the spring, when the snow melts away a bit, you can see a little curb but otherwise there are just rocks and huge trees. There’s an apple tree but this year it’s already very old. Then there’s the cherry tree, also very old, and there is lilac blossoming scattered between the trees. And when I was there for the first time, I also saw daffodil and a gooseberry bush. Red gooseberry, but it wasn’t bearing any fruit, yet, it was in the beginning of May 1990.” Recalls Emma Marx. She is describing a trip to the village of Huťský dvůr where she was born and where her family used to lived. Her family was displaced in 1946 and although she sought to emigrate to Germany herself, she never succeeded.

Huťský dvůr

Available in: English | Česky

The village was founded as a glass-making settlement in the seventeenth century. About a hundred years later, the Schwarzenberg Canal was built and most of the population made a living as lumberjacks. After World War II, the Germans were displaced and in the 1960s, the village - situated in the border zone – finally disappeared.
